I LOVED this book!

Oliver is such an easy character to relate to. I'm sure we all have weird quirks and insecurities just like him. I was so happy with the banter between all the characters that I didn't even notice when I was almost finished with the book. It was that good! 

I think my favorite characters would have to be Viney. I don't think the book would've been that amazing without him. I have a thing for supportive friends that know you even more than you know yourself. Is it wrong if I want Viney to have his own story? I would like to get into this character's head to know him better. I want to know what Viney would be like if he ever fell in love. 

In this book, we meet Oliver, who has a thing for lists. He's decided to make a list on How to Get Ainsley Bishop to Fall in Love with you (hence, the title) but there's the whole issue of Ian (Ainsley's boyfriend). I don't like the concept of going after someone else's boyfriend or girlfriend, so I was really scared that I was going to end up hating this book, but I was totally wrong. It helped that Ian was a jerk. I don't feel bad for jerks! :P Oliver is so ridiculously awkward and flustered around Ainsley that it was hard not to laugh at his antics. I also loved the family dynamics in Oliver's household. Sherlock (Oliver's brother) is hilarious! 

This is the type of book that makes you go Aww... at almost every page. I definitely recommend it to anybody who is interested in reading YA novels. I dare you to not like it! It's an amazingly written book with fun characters! :D

Review: Going Rogue by Robin Benway

Too bad it only serves to put her and everyone she loves in danger. Maggie and her "new team" flee to Paris where they must come up with a plan to defeat their former allies.

My Review

This book was a nice little light read for me. I know, I know. It wasn't intended to be a light read, but that's what it ended up being in my eyes.

Who was the intended audience for this book? Just wondering. 

I liked Maggie and Jessie Oliver's thing! CUTE! (I can't just say Jesse, it doesn't sound right without the Oliver part). Even with the corny jokes, they just grew on me. I want to pinch their cheeks! They are so adorable!

The pacing was just right for me, and I really enjoyed  Angelo and Roux's friendship. Can I call it a chess-father-ship? No? Well, back to the review, then. That girl needs all the love in the world, and I'm so happy that Angelo is able to distract her from some of her worries when the time is right. 

The pacing in the book was alright, but I wished for more action. I understand that I was supposed to get a sense of danger all throughout the book, but I didn't feel that.  

In Going Rogue, Maggie and her parents are "blacklisted." The collective is no longer what it used to be and it gets hard to tell who you can trust. Mags and her parents (along with Roux, Jessie Oliver, and Angelo) get pulled into a conflict that requires them to stand up against the Collective. 

I think the major problem for me with this book was that I didn't think they were in any actual danger. As gruesome as everything looked, I couldn't believe that any serious harm would come to the characters. I mean, I'm glad nobody died, but I would've wanted to atleast feel as if somebody was going to die.

Another problem: Insta-love? Roux meets a guy for the very first time and pretty soon, she's trusting him with all her secrets. Does this happen in real life? I'm sorry for my pessimism, but I didn't buy the whole insta-love story. Sorry. Though with Roux, I kind of let it go a little  because that girl has some messed up parents. They barely show any sort of love to her. Those jerks! Plus the guy seemed nice enough. 

I was satisfied with the ending, but I didn't get any major thrills. Either way, I think everybody should give this book a chance! :)

Cute. Adorable. Genius. Amazing. I'm running out of synonyms. The book was just wonderful!

Can I just say that Cecilia Gray is a genius for writing this magnificent book? I thought making Kat an actress was definitely the right angle for retelling Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen.

Henry? Kat's Love interest? Well, Hellooooo new book boyfriend! *waves*

I loved every minute of this book. I would say I couldn't put it down, but I had to put it down at those wonderfully intense parts to catch my breath for a second or so.

Kat wants to be a star someday, so she's thrilled when Josh Wickham (movie star/hottie) invites her to be his personal assistant while he's shooting a movie. While she's there, she gets closer to some interesting (and famous) people, including Henry Tilney.

Some of my non-spoilery thoughts on Josh Wickham while reading:
1. I hate Josh

3. Does Josh ever get a happy ending?
4. I feel bad for Josh
5. I hate Josh

That's how much the book played with my emotions. I loved it! :D

What I liked: Everything!

What I disliked: I disliked that the book wasn't longer. I also hated that I didn't get to see the rest of our heroines: Lizzie, Eleanor, Anne and Emma. Yes, guys, I actually missed Emma in this book. I didn't miss her half as much as I missed the others, but I still missed her :)

Oh, I missed the other guys too, but Henry kept me fully entertained.
I'm trying to do this review without fangirling all over the place, but I'm not succeeding, so allow me to conclude.

If you've read Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen, you'll appreciate the creative spin the author placed on the story. If you haven't read the book and you need a cute, light-hearted book, definitely pick up this one! Warning: The epilogue at the end will make you super anxious for the next book in the series.

I'm going to hurry up and read Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. It's the only novel by Jane Austen that I haven't read so far, and the next book in this series will be a retelling of Mansfield Park. I'm super excited! I loved this book!

What I loved: I loved all the friendships! Girl power! I think some novels focus too much on the romance and forfeit showing the reader how powerful friendships can be. 

I really enjoyed Fall For You by Cecilia Gray, and I decided to keep up with the Jane Austen Academy Series, but I don't think this book was as great as it's predecessor. 

In So Into You, Ellie finds out early on that she has to leave her beloved Jane Austen Academy because her parents spontaneously decided to move their family out to another country. Ellie and her friends try to come up with ways to get Ellie to keep attending the Academy, but it's up to Ellie to decide if she really wants to stay or go off with her parents.

Though I loved So Into You, I had two major issues with this book.

1. As the series progresses, the characters seem to be having major personality make-overs.

Let me explain:

-In Fall For You, Lizzie was a headstrong journalist with spunk. In So Into You, she loses some of that spunk that made me love her, and seems unsure of everything she wants to accomplish. 

- In the first book, I thought Emma was funny and charismatic, but in order to resemble Marianne Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility, her character became extremely annoying. Plus I remember Emma saying that she thought Edward was nothing but heartbreak at the end of the first book. So why was she so intent on getting Ellie and Edward together in this book? I understand she wanted her friend to stay, but if I knew a guy meant nothing but heartbreak, I would most certainly not fix him up with any of my friends. 

-Dante.....What happened to being Mr. Darcy?

2. I don't think Ellie was a good representative of Elinor Dashwood. Yes, Ellie was intelligent and had a good head on her shoulders, but something just didn't add up for me. I think it was all the mention of yoga.

While we're on the subject of Ellie, I also didn't like the way Edward treated her AND Lucy in this book. If you've read Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, you know exactly what I'm talking about. 

No, Edward. I don't forgive you. What you did was wrong. You're lucky you're so charming, and Ellie is so forgiving. If it were me, I would've never talked to you again.

Beyond that, I thought the story wrapped up pretty nicely. I would've liked to see more Lizzie and Ellie interaction and less of Emma, but I knew Emma had to be there to fulfill her Marianne Dashwood role. Maybe some more meaningful Lizzie and Dante interaction? I'm sure they do other things besides kissing.... A little more of Anne would've also been greatly appreciated. I can't wait to read her story!!! :D

Overall, So Into You didn't quite capture me as Fall For You (most sequels don't), but I would be lying if I said it wasn't fun to read. It was definitely cute! :) I'm excited to read the next installment of the series. 

I expect great things just from reading the next book's description! :D

I really didn't think I would like this book, but I actually did.

I liked Katelyn (maybe because the parts of her that I would normally find annoying in girls in genres like this has been removed due to reprogramming) Yay!!!!! :D I also really liked her friend, Quess, I thought she was hilarious and smart!

It's weird for me to like the heroine and dislike the boy. It's usually the opposite. I did not like Lucas at all. I got the fact that author was trying to depict him as a nerd with a guilty conscience, but sadly, he didn't make it to the book boyfriend list. He came off more as a creeper to me than anything else. Everytime I read his POV, I cringed a little. There was this part in the book where he was drinking tea, and I don't know why, but it just gave me the creeps. Seriously, I'm not even playing! Made me shiver a little. Either way, I'm glad this didn't turn into a love triangle, and I'm interested to know more about this series. I don't regret reading this book at all.

One of my major issues with this book was that even though I liked it (and I REALLY liked it), everything just seemed too happy go lucky in the end. Things were tied up way too neatly. In the end, it doesn't feel like anything really happened. Another major issue is that Lucas and Katelyn are basically confessing their love for each other right off the bat. Maybe they didn't say it out loud, but it was pretty obvious. I think I would've liked the book more without the insta-love and if Lucas had been just slightly less of a creeper.

Warning: There's lots and lots of mature scenes, so I'd limit this to older teens.

Definitely read this book for yourself, so you can get your own opinion of it. I see a lot of 5-star reviews for this book, so maybe you'll like it much more than me. Overall, I think the author did a good job.

I read the blurb for the next book, and I expect there to be a whole lot more action. It seems like it should be fun to read. :)

Review: How To Be A Perfect Girl by Mary Williams

*sigh* Ok. It's time to finally review this book.

Let me start by saying I thought this was going to be a fun, light-hearted read, and I had no idea that I was going to read such a roller-coaster type of book. I know, I know, I should've guessed from the blurb, but come on! "Bitter social battles?" I thought it would be a funny clique thing. After all, she's only a high school freshman.

I have no complaints against the author's story-telling ability. It was really easy to read and understand everything that was going on. However, the story she chose to tell is beyond me.

The set up was good, but then things started taking a turn for the worse.

Warning: The Love Triangle is strong with this one.

I hated the main character. She was unbelievably rude and her "best friend" was a jerk. All the "love interests" were jerks as well. I was unimpressed with all of them.

Valentina, is a perfect example of  "Little Miss Perfect" in my Why I Hate Love Triangles blog post. You  can go read it if you want to understand a bit more of what I mean.

Ofcourse, the cursing didn't help raise my opinion of this book. The only good character was Carrie. This book would've been much better if she had been the main character. She is practically the only character that was likeable. She isn't as pretty or popular as the main character, but she's nice, smart, and sweet! :) Heck, even Avery, (the antagonist) would've made a better main character.

Review: Cress by Marissa Meyer

My Review

Marissa Meyer strikes again!

If you thought the first two books were great, just wait till you read Cress. Cinder and Scarlet was just the warm-up.

In order for this to be a non-spoilery review, I can't tell you in specific details why I love this book so much, but you'll find out when you read it! :D

Let's explore the characters!

Cress: I loved her! I don't see her as a damsel in distress. She's just a tiny bit loopy from being locked up in a satellite for so long. Who wouldn't be? I think one of the reasons I felt so connected to her was because we share the same coping techniques. I think Marissa Meyer has been spying on me. Whenever Cress is in a difficult situation, she pretends that she's someone else....usually an actress or a celebrity. She uses her imagination to help her in the real world. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to that.

Kai: *swoons* My Emperor! I cannot stand the thought of my emperor being engaged that wicked villain. It makes me so sad! :( Kai was just so adorable in this book...more so than usual. He's still struggling to determine which side Cinder is on. Poor Kai! I must admit that he has pretty dense moments, where you just wanted to shake his handsome body and scream WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND?! By the end of the book, he's back to being Prince Charming :)

Thorne: If you haven't fallen in love with Thorne yet, this is the time to do it. Our hero gets a major setback, but it doesn't stop him from being his swoony self. I can't really say anything else without spoiling it, so read the book!

Wolf: *tears* It's too painful to talk about. :(

Scarlet: I'll always love Scarlet's fierce spirit. She makes a very bold move in this book, and I'm inspired by her bravery.

Dr. Erland: We had the privilege of understanding more about Dr. Erland and his daughter. In the end, things worked out for the best.

Jacin: Do you guys remember who this is? This is the guard that "manhandled" (for lack of a better word) Cinder at the ball. He also had a little part to play in Scarlet (the second book). Trust me. He's in there. I checked! I know many people had mixed opinions on Jacin, but I don't feel conflicted at all. I absolutely love him! I think when Winter comes around, everyone will feel the same way I do. Don't say I didn't warn you! :P

Cinder: Absolutely amazing! I'm proud of her character growth and I love how brilliant she is at coming up with plans.

Winter: OMG! Just wait...just you wait and see. She is absolutely adorable! I can't wait to read more about her in 2015.

Cress was filled with action, and wonderful storytelling. I loved how Marissa Meyer tied everything together so neatly. One problem I always have with dystopia is that sometimes the characters don't feel different at all. Can you relate? This book didn't have that problem. The characters are conveyed differently and their interactions with each other are top-notch. This is an example of a well thought out series. You know how everybody says that sequels aren't as good as the first book? I feel like Marissa Meyer's writing says: Ain't nobody got time for that! It's that good. Read it! Honestly, the only disadvantage to reading Cress is that you have to wait till 2015 to get the next book. *sigh*

I will allow myself to say one thing:
Cinder and Kai will interact in this book. I repeat, Cinder and Kai interact in this book!

I got a copy of this book for an honest review

Although the concept of "gods" makes me cringe a little, I actually really enjoyed this book. Dan Galkin tries to runaway from his destiny of being a supervillian, a destiny being forced on him by his grandfather. I loved Dan's sarcasm. In my opinion, there's no better way to deal when you're surrounded by people that hate you. Sarcasm is always the way to go.

The love interest, Miranda, is quite spunky. In the beginning, I thought she was going to be one of those weak female characters that are often found in science fiction novels, but was pleasant surprised that she was the opposite.

My favorite character was Bree. She was not one of the primary characters, but I liked her a lot. I adored her laid-back attitude about everything.

Halo was a character I just couldn't understand. At first I hated him, then I fell in love with him, and then I was just plain confused. He's very deceptive, sneaky...yet helpful. 

The author's writing style was easy to read and understand. The story starts out pretty hectic, slows down and then picks right back up with heavy action-packed scenes. My emotions were all over the place. I say a job well done to the author! There was some strong language used, but it was brief only happened three times that I can recall, and very easy to ignore.

I gave The Miranda Contract 3.5/5 stars because it was way better than just being an "ok" type of book, yet it didn't quite hit a 4-star rating. I'm still confused about how Dan's grandfather's powers work. I'm also very curious to know other things such as: How did the Mad Russian become mad? How did Sully get his job? 

Overall, I was very satisfied and it was a book I did not regret reading.

Review: Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

I actually didn't read this up until the middle of 2013. I was so scared that it wouldn't live up to the epic start of the first book. Boy, was I wrong!

Here's my very dramatic overview:

Scarlet continues the epic story of Cinder (a retelling of Cinderella) by Marissa Meyer. Scarlet is determined to find her missing grandmother even though the police  has stopped searching for her. In her hunt for information, she finds out that Wolf, a street fighter, may know something about her grandmother's disappearance and together they go on an epic journey. In the meanwhile, Cinder, finding out the real reason she is so valuable to Dr. Erland...and to the whole world, must escape from prison to fulfill her destiny. While escaping, she meets Thorne, a charming criminal who might be her ticket to freedom. When Scarlet and Cinder finally meet, all chaos breaks loose and the queen will stop at nothing to guard her throne.

It was an amazing tale! In this retelling of The Little Red Riding Hood, Marissa Meyer introduces Wolf (trust me, the name is no joke), who claims he can help Scarlet (AKA little red riding hood) find her missing grandmother. It was way different from what I expected, but...in a good way :) In the meanwhile, Cinder is busy escaping from prison, which is how we meet Captain Carswell Thorne (whom you will LOVE). All of Thorne's quotes will either make you laugh or make you swoon.

 Meyer does an excellent job of handling all those point of views. Even though I'm strictly an Emperor Kai fangirl...I have to admit Wolf was definitely a swoon-worthy character. Scarlet is not some scared little girl delivering food to her grandmother, she is fierce and I love it!!! Cinder has grown up a lot since the first book and with some training, I think she has a good shot at defeating Queen Levana.

The story bounces between point of views flawlessly. We got to see the story from the perspective of Kai, Cinder, Scarlet, Wolf...and even the wicked Queen Levana!


Whoa!!!

If you haven't gotten into this series yet, I suggest you start as soon as possible.


Three of my favorite parts of the book

1. Cinder's escape from prison. Warning! Escaped Cyborg on the loose, accompanied by handsome spaceship "Captain." We got to see Cinder using her glamor...and I have to say, I was very proud. :)

2. Emperor's Kai press conference. He defended Cinder (in the most diplomatic way possible at the time), and he did it with that famous prince-like sass that I've known and come to love.

3. The ending!!!! I don't want to spoil it for you guys, but I just wanted to say that epic things happen when Cinder, Thorne, Scarlet, and Wolf finally meet up.

I don't know how one manages to come up with such an awesome tale, but Marissa Meyer has done it. In fact, I find the whole series to be flawless.

Everyone who loves a good story should read this book. This book takes the fairy tale of Cinderella and turns the whole thing around. We meet Cinder, a cyborg mechanic in a dystopian world.

 She's a lot like Cinderella with the whole evil step-mother and two step-sisters thing, but it's different because one of her step-sisters is actually nice. Cinder is almost always accompanied by her android, who is might I say...very inappropriate, but you'll fall in love with her all the same. So on to the story shall we...

Cinder is disliked by her step-mother because she is a cyborg. Due to certain circumstances (don't want to spoil it for you!), Cinder gets "volunteered" into the hands of Dr. Erland for him to run tests on her and very interesting secrets are unfolded one by one.

What's a fairy tale without a Prince? Yes, there is definitely romance in the book, but not the kind you would normally think of. There is really no time for Cinder to explore her feelings because...let's just say things are a bit complicated at the moment. How do you tell a prince you're a cyborg?

In the world that Marissa Meyer has created, there exist Lunars who are from the moon. THE MOON! Apparently humans that lived on the moon evolved into these Lunars. They are very powerful, being able to take control of people's thoughts and emotions, they also have an evil queen that can really get into your thoughts...literally. The Lunars have threatened to go to war with earth unless there can be some type of agreement  between Prince Kai and the Lunar Queen. She wants marriage....(over my dead body!)

This book was definitely a great read. I recommend it to all book lovers out there, whether male or female. You're going to love how the author takes a fairy tale and turns it into a wonderful, breathtaking universe that has many different twists and turns. My review doesn't do this book justice. Read it for yourself. You won't regret it. When you're done, you'll want the sequel to just fall in your lap.
